Payroll Tax Review
Circumstances / Situation
Our client had identified a potential payroll tax liability on their mining sites in Queensland and New South Wales. We were engaged by their accounting firm to assess the situation.
Solution
We undertook a full payroll tax review of the business, identifying which States would assess any liability, outlining how to treat FIFO workers and identifying which employees and contractors would be assessed. We also identified payroll tax grouping issues with another entity requiring resolution. As part of this process, we made several recommendations to improve record keeping and documentation with contractor engagement.
Outcome
The business is now clear on its payroll tax obligations. Record keeping and documentation has improved to support their position and changes have been made to internal processes.
